Pete Doherty, frontman of The Libertines and Babyshambles, has made an unusual proposal to Oasis: to perform as a support act during their reunion shows in exchange for tickets for his in-laws. In a recent interview with i Paper, Doherty revealed he’s willing to set aside his long-standing feud with the Gallagher brothers if it means securing a spot at the highly anticipated concerts for his family.
According to Doherty, his in-laws are huge Oasis fans but, like many others, struggled to get tickets due to overwhelming demand. In a last-ditch effort to get them into the show, he suggested performing a short acoustic set. “If Noel or Liam are reading this: maybe a 10-minute acoustic slot? Even before the doors open?” he joked.
The singer-songwriter also admitted to telling a little white lie to keep his family off his back: “I said to them, ‘Oh, I might have a support slot at one of the gigs.’ Which, of course, isn’t true. But that’s bought me some time…”
To sweeten the deal, Doherty added: “I’ll only charge travel expenses. I won’t even take a fee!”
A cheeky and desperate gesture that highlights just how monumental the Oasis reunion shows are shaping up to be. Will Noel and Liam take him up on the offer? Only time will tell!
