As excitement builds for the upcoming Oasis reunion tour, original drummer Tony McCarroll has shared a moving message to the band — and to the fans — reflecting on the early days and looking ahead to what’s coming next.
Posting on Instagram on April 4 alongside an old photo of himself, McCarroll wrote:
“Almost a lifetime ago, a few Burnage lads got together and created something special.
Something that time can’t out date, the start of a wave that’s evidently still rolling with the last real band before the world changed.”
McCarroll was a founding member of Oasis in 1991 and played on the band’s iconic debut album Definitely Maybe, as well as early singles like Whatever and Some Might Say. He left the group in 1995 and later reached a legal settlement over royalties. Despite past tensions, his message strikes a tone of pride and goodwill — even a touch of envy for the next generation discovering the band anew.
“Oasis captured the time and minds of the people; we were the same as them, and they felt it. The connection.”
He added that more and more young people have been turning up at his Q&A events in recent years, a sign that the Oasis story is beginning a new chapter.
“The circle has started again lads. A new generation ready to start a journey of listening.
Actually, I’m a bit jealous of that blank canvas they’re about to start on.”
McCarroll closed the letter with a nod to his former bandmates — Liam, Noel, Bonehead, Gem (and “not sure who else”) — and a bit of playful charm:
“Good luck with everything, and don’t forget to stop and take it in! If the drummer fancies a stage partner for Supersonic at Heaton Park, give us a buzz ;)”
It’s a rare moment of warmth and reflection from someone who was there from the very start — and a reminder of just how deep the roots of this story go.
