Noel Gallagher has revealed that the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour is all down to Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs.
After 16 years apart, the Britpop icons made a triumphant return to the stage on Friday night (July 4) at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, playing to a crowd of over 70,000 ecstatic fans.
During the second show at the same venue on Saturday night, Noel surprised the audience by explaining who really made it possible for the Gallagher brothers to set aside their differences and reunite. While introducing the band between songs, Noel pointed to Bonehead and said: “On guitar, if it wasn’t for him, none of this would have happened.”
Back in March, NME.com revealed that Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs would be part of the reunion lineup, alongside Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Joey Waronker. Bonehead, a founding member of Oasis, played on the band’s first three albums before leaving in 1999 during the recording of Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. More recently, he had often performed with Liam Gallagher’s solo band.
To make the night even more special, Noel and Liam once again walked on stage hand in hand — just as they had the previous evening — before bowing to each other and kicking off the set with the classic opener Hello.
