Oasis are officially back together – and what a comeback it was. On July 4th, the iconic Manchester band took over Cardiff’s Principality Stadium for the historic first night of their hugely anticipated Live ’25 reunion tour, marking the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher have shared a stage since their acrimonious split back in 2009.
Before Oasis even stepped on stage, the atmosphere was electric. Celebrities like Emily Eavis and Danny Dyer were spotted in the audience, while Noel’s daughter Anaïs also cheered from the crowd. The night opened with sets from CAST – who paid tribute to the late Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota – and a rousing performance from Richard Ashcroft, who declared he was “so glad to be here with the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band,” before closing his set with the timeless Bitter Sweet Symphony.
Then came the moment fans had waited 16 years for. The lights dimmed, the intro music F***in’ In The Bushes roared through the stadium, and Liam and Noel Gallagher walked out side by side, arms raised in a symbolic gesture that finally ended their long-standing feud.
The opening song couldn’t have been more perfect: ‘Hello’, played live for the first time since 2002, with its defiant refrain “It’s good to be back” echoing around the packed stadium. The band wasted no time diving into the powerful B-side ‘Acquiesce’, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
“It’s been too long! Oasis is in the area,” Liam shouted, as the band powered through a 23-track setlist packed with fan favourites and unexpected gems. From the swaggering ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, to the anthemic ‘Morning Glory’, ‘Some Might Say’ and ‘Roll With It’, the set was pure Oasis: loud, raw and unapologetically brilliant.
At moments, sentimentality shone through. Noel took the lead on a trio of beloved tracks – ‘Talk Tonight’, ‘Half The World Away’ and ‘Little By Little’ – while Liam stepped aside, letting his brother have his moment. Noel also dedicated ‘Cast No Shadow’ to “the genius of Richard Ashcroft,” a nod to their longtime friendship.
One of the most emotional moments came during ‘Live Forever’, when an image of Diogo Jota – who tragically died earlier this week at the age of 28 – was displayed on the big screens, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd.
After closing the main set with the iconic ‘Rock ’n’ Roll Star’, the band returned for an encore that perfectly balanced emotion and celebration. Noel introduced ‘The Masterplan’ by dedicating it “to all the people in their 20s who have never seen us before and kept this shit going for 20 years.” Then came the timeless Manchester anthem ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, now a song of unity and remembrance since the tragic 2017 Manchester Arena attack.
As Liam came back to the mic, he teased the crowd: “You all had a good time yeah? Was it worth the £40,000 you paid for a ticket?” Judging by the deafening cheers, it absolutely was.
The night ended with two of Oasis’ biggest songs: ‘Wonderwall’ – during which Liam joked “There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don’t speak Welsh” – and finally ‘Champagne Supernova’, sending the 74,500 fans home on a high, voices hoarse from singing along.
Oasis’ Live ’25 tour isn’t just a reunion – it’s a celebration of a legacy that defined British rock for decades, and a reminder of why the band’s songs still resonate so deeply today. With passion, nostalgia and, above all, rock ’n’ roll, Oasis have proved that even after 16 years apart, their music can still bring people together in unforgettable style.
