The Oasis reunion tour made a stop at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles on September 6, drawing a star-studded crowd with the likes of Vince Vaughn, Leonardo Di Caprio, Salma Hayek, Linda Evangelista, Kristen Stewart, Metallica’s James Hetfield, Finneas, Billie Eilish, and Paul McCartney all spotted in attendance.
But for long-time Oasis fans, one guest in particular stood out: Melissa Lim, the woman who inspired the 1995 track Talk Tonight. Lim shared clips from the gig on Instagram, captioning them: “30 years and worth the wait! Thank you @oasis.”
Her presence carries special significance in Oasis’ history. As told in the Supersonic documentary, after the band’s chaotic 1994 show at Whisky A Go Go, Noel Gallagher temporarily quit Oasis and disappeared. He found refuge with Lim in San Francisco, a period that directly inspired Talk Tonight.
Reflecting on that moment in a 1998 NME interview, Noel said:
“I went to San Francisco, ’cos I’d left the band at that point, and I was, well, I don’t know what I was doing. I was just off me fucking head. And I met this chick, and she sorted me head out, really. Actually, she ended up grassing me up to the record company ’cos they were all looking for me, so she told them where I was, and they came to get me!”
Three decades later, Lim was back in the crowd – this time not as a hidden figure in the band’s mythology, but as a part of Oasis’ historic reunion.
