A new Oasis teaser has just been released — and it looks like the band may be leaving us a very deliberate clue about their next destination.
The short video takes us into what appears to be a port area, surrounded by shipping containers and the unmistakable sound of seagulls. Two young men stop in the middle of the container yard before being chased by port police.
For Oasis fans, the imagery immediately brings one place to mind: Amsterdam.
And there couldn’t be a more appropriate city to tease.
On 17 February 1994, Oasis were travelling to the Netherlands to play their first-ever concert outside the UK, supporting The Verve in Amsterdam. They never made it to the stage.
During the ferry journey across the North Sea, a drunken confrontation with football supporters turned into a serious incident. Liam Gallagher, Bonehead, Guigsy and Tony McCarroll were arrested and deported back to Britain when the ferry reached the Netherlands, while Noel Gallagher, who had not been involved, remained in Amsterdam.
Photographer Kevin Cummins had travelled to Amsterdam to photograph the band’s first European show. When he arrived, however, there was only Noel. The rest of the band had already been sent home. He eventually photographed Noel standing beside the poster for the cancelled gig — an image that has since become part of Oasis history.
The incident was even discussed by Liam and Noel in the infamous “Wibbling Rivalry” interview released later that year, with Noel famously insisting that getting thrown off a ferry wasn’t rock’n’roll — while Liam had a rather different view of the whole affair.
More than three decades later, Oasis have released a teaser featuring a port, containers, police and a chase.
Coincidence? Probably not. Amsterdam, here we come?
